Albemarle County Environmental Management

The County of Albemarle has adopted an Environmental Management Policy, which commits the County to environmental compliance, pollution prevention and continual environmental improvement.

To carry out our Environmental Management Policy, the County is implementing an

Environmental Management System (EMS). The EMS will reduce adverse environmental impacts and increase operating efficiency. It is based on the "Plan, Do, Check, Act" management model.

In 2011 the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors approved the Environmental Stewardship Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2013-2020. This plan sets goals to reduce energy demand in County-owned buildings, improve travel efficiencies for County vehicles, and promote waste reduction.
