Facilities and Environmental Services  |  Water Resources Program
brown-horizontal-line

The Water Resources Division implements a number of programs to protect water resources and other natural resources of
the County. Some of the things we do:

  • work to improve degraded streams and rivers, and generally protect water quality and stream health
  • educate and involve the public in water stewardship
  • enforce the prohibition of illicit discharges
  • respond to citizen inquiries regarding drainage issues (drainagecomplaint@albemarle.org).

  • design and build restored stream channels, engineered wetlands, stormwater detention facilities, and other projects to protect water quality
  • ensure the proper maintenance of publicly and privately-owned stormwater management facilities
  • maintain compliance with dam safety requirements

The division often works in partnership with staff from other departments and local environmental colleagues.
