Dental Insurance: Smile! Employees can choose from two dental insurance options – Basic or High – through Anthem’s Dental Complete plan. Dental insurance is available for the employee, their spouse, and dependent children under age 26. Our High Option plan covers all services included under the Basic Option plan, in addition to covering orthodontia, sealants and crowns.
Medical Insurance: You’re covered! Medical coverage is available to eligible employees and their eligible spouse and children under age 26. Albemarle County employees can choose from two medical insurance plan options that are administered by Anthem of Virginia. In addition to inpatient, outpatient, and major medical coverage, services provided include preventive care, prescriptions and vision benefits. With Anthem, members have access to a nationwide network and services like educational videos, web-based cost comparison tools, mobile apps and online physician consultations that give members 24-hour a day access to a physician at one low flat fee.
Life Insurance: Rest assured – Albemarle County provides group life insurance at no cost; coverage pays double your annual salary for natural death and quadruple for accidental death.
Retirement: Dreaming about the future? Albemarle County helps you prepare for your future by providing retirement benefits to all benefits-eligible employees. Full-time employees participate in the Virginia Retirement System with monthly contributions paid by both the employee and employer. Part-time benefits eligible employees participate in the part-time pension plan after five years of service.
Leave: Need a day? Albemarle County provides paid sick and annual leave, in addition to various job-protected leave options.
Holidays: Need a break? 12-month employees receive ample paid holidays.
Health & Wellness: Many health and wellness opportunities are offered throughout the year - at no cost to the employee! The BeWell Albemarle site provides employees with up-to-date information on these opportunities as well as promotes a culture of good health and wellness through education, wellness activities and self-improvement.

Deferred Compensation: Planning for the future? Employees have the opportunity to save toward retirement by contributing untaxed income to a 457 or 403(b) plan.
Personal Accident Insurance: Accidents can happen! Employees may choose to purchase personal accident insurance through AFLAC.
Long-Term Disability Coverage: Worried about an unforseen disability? Employees may choose to purchase Long-Term Disability coverage – at a reduced group rate – through The Hartford. This LTD insurance is optional and separate from the LTD benefits provided to VRS Hybrid members.
