Mapping Cville: Examining Equity Through History

County Wide
Lane Auditorium (COB)
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Please join us for our February Lunch and Learn, "Mapping Cville: Examining Equity Through History," a history talk given by Jordy Yager. The talk will be given on February 20 from 11:30 am - 1 pm in Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902. RSVP through EventBrite is encouraged but not required.

Over the last 18 months, local journalist Jordy Yager has worked with the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, where he serves as a Fellow, to launch the Mapping Cville project. The project has digitized and searched through more than 300,000 pages of County and City property records, flagging those between 1888-1968 that contain racially restrictive covenants. (There are thousands!)

This conversation presents an opportunity to engage in community discussion around our shared public history. Come learn more about the origin of this project, and how, even with just 10 minutes of your time, you can get involved and help build a map of the Albemarle-Charlottesville area's historical racial restrictions. Yager will give a 25-minute presentation, a brief tutorial of the crowd-sourced Zooniverse program, and be more than happy to answer any and all questions that come up.
