SUBSTITUTE EDEP ASSISTANT
EXTENDED DAY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
VARIOUS SCHOOLS

The Substitute EDEP Assistant assists the Head Teacher and/or Teacher as necessary in support of assigned students in the Extended Day Enrichment program.  Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains a safe work environment;
  • Establishes and maintains high standards of behavior;
  • Assists the teacher with daily tasks;
  • Instructs students in preplanned activities as required;
  • Assists with any activity and special event as needed;
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with EDEP staff and school staff;
  • Exhibits positive public relations;
  • Upholds school rules, policies, and procedures;
  • Provides basic personal care;
  • Attends required and assigned training sessions;
  • Exhibits dependable work habits;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward elementary students; ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; must be high school graduate or hold equivalence of a high school diploma; minimum of six months experience working with children in grades K-5; Training in Basic First Aid.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Duties performed typically in school settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned spaces; Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 80 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required; Occasional travel with students on field trips; Regular movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required; Personal hygiene of disabled students in changing catheters, diapers, and clothing is required; Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals weighing up to 50 pounds may be required; Daily personal and close contact with children and EDEP staff members required to provide an effective learning environment; contacts with community and division-level staff may require considerable tact and diplomacy; contact with children requires considerable empathy and understanding of children with disabilities.

SALARY:  $9.28/ per hour
