FOOD SERVICE ASSOCIATES
SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS

The Food Service Associate is responsible for preparing and serving nutritional meals to pupils and staff in the school. Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Moving food to preparation area;
  • Preparing food for cooking and serving;
  • Cooking food, serving food,  and storing food;
  • Cleaning work  utensils, equipment, kitchen and dining areas;
  • Cashiering;
  • Setting up serving lines;
  • Serves,  assists, and helps  customers;  meets customers needs;  
  • Follows  proper sanitation and safe food handling procedures;
  • Attends designated meetings and training classes;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager and assistant manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ability to work independently and demonstrate flexibility and initiative in performing a variety of assignments.  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma.  Some knowledge of or experience in quantity food preparation is desired.  Pursuant to state law, individuals applying for employment with the Albemarle County Public Schools for any position shall be required to disclose prior convictions of law other than minor traffic violations or juvenile offenses.  Information provided by applicants may be verified by work history, personal reference or criminal record inquiries to determine the applicant's acceptability for employment.  

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS & NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:  Works typically in school cafeteria setting with kitchen, serving line, storage areas.  Extended periods of standing required.  Frequent lifting of food containers, food stuffs and pots weighing 10-30 pounds is required.  Occasional exposure to damp floors, steam from equipment and potentially caustic cleaning materials is necessary.  Daily contact with principal, school staff, teachers and students is necessary.  Occasional contact is made with visitors and the general public.

 

SALARY:  $9.10 per hour
