New Regional Emergency Management Coordinator Hired
The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle County Emergency Communications Center is pleased to announce the addition of Ms. Kirby Felts as the new Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Charlottesville, University of Virginia and County of Albemarle. Ms. Felts officially took the helm on June 1st with the retirement of Marge Thomas from the position. Ms. Thomas retired after 34 ½ years with the ECC.
Kirby comes to the ECC from the University of Virginia where she served as the Assistant Director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness for the past 3 ½ years. Her duties at the University included development of emergency plans and procedures, working with various departments and offices in training and exercising emergency plans and educating students, faculty and staff on mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery strategies. Prior to UVA, Ms. Felts was a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton primarily supporting federal clients in emergency management and continuity of operations.
Ms. Felts received her undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary and her graduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
“We are indeed very proud to have someone of Kirby’s caliber leading our Emergency Management Office for the three jurisdictions,” stated Tom Hanson the Executive Director of the Emergency Communications Center. “She brings new ideas on how things can be done,” Hanson said.
