Charlottesville/Albemarle County Named Top Spot for Agritourism
The website Go Green Travel Green has named Charlottesville/Albemarle County the top spot in the country for agritourism. Agritourism, short for agricultural tourism, encompasses working farms, ranches, wineries, and orchards that include an element of commercial enterprise for guests. Our community quickly rose to the top based on the abundance of organic produce and fruit options, including Carter’s Mountain Orchard and Charlottesville’s City Market.
“Albemarle County encourages and supports agricultural enterprises as an important component of our overall economic vitality,” says Lee Catlin, Assistant to the County Executive for Community and Business Partnerships. “It is very exciting to see how these working rural businesses are transforming into tourism destinations that bring visitors and revenues to our community.”
Northampton, MA, Rogue Valley and Applegate Valley, OR, Niagara, NY, Finger Lakes Region, NY and Northfield, MN round out the list.
