Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau Announces Applications Now Available for Non-profit Tourism Marketing Funding of Festivals & Cultural Events
7/1/2014

Information session to be held at City Space on July 9

The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) announced today that on Wednesday, July 9, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at CitySpace, it will provide an overview of its Non-Profit Tourism Marketing Funding for Festivals and Cultural Events program and walk-through with prospective applicants on the process. Reservations are not required to attend.

The Non-Profit Tourism Marketing Funding for Festivals and Cultural Events, formerly under the ABRT program, is now handled directly through the CACVB. Applicant organizations approved under this program will have funding available to promote and market their festival and cultural event being held from July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016 (FY16).

Applicant organizations that meet all the requirements for receiving marketing funding will be considered along with all others that qualify. The CACVB stresses that incomplete applications will not be accepted and encourages all applicants to read and understand the entire application. Specific focus will be on how festivals and cultural events attract out-of-area visitors to the Charlottesville Albemarle area.

Sarah Lawson, Executive Director, Piedmont Council for the Arts (PCA), said, “The CACVB’s ongoing commitment to providing marketing funding can make a huge difference in the overall success of festivals and cultural events in our area.” Noting that the CACVB and PCA have collaborated on several key initiatives to promote the arts, Lawson further said, “while accountability is a given when receiving CACVB marketing funding, our tourism office is highly supportive and eager to partner with others to achieve success.”

It is important to note that a policy change made by the CACVB board of directors prior to this year’s process clearly defines a festival as an event that will, “take place over a one to ten-day period that spans over two weekends (a maximum of 10 days).” Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to thoroughly read this policy statement and application requirements to ascertain whether they meet the requirements as stated.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014. Organizations approved will be notified in late January or early February 2015. No extensions for submitting applications will be granted

All information that will be provided at the July 9 meeting is now available on the CACVB’s website, www.visitcharlottesville.org/festivalfunding.
