The Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center in Crozet Invites Locals and Visitors to Take Part in Program
2/29/2016

A presentation on the black bear will take place on March 5th

The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) is thrilled to announce the first event in a series of free seasonal Saturday morning programs offered at the Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center located in downtown Crozet.

On Saturday, March 5th starting at 10:00 a.m., David Kocka of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will offer an information session about black bears. This is especially timely as bears are exiting their den at springtime and make frequent appearances near local homes. Learn the tricks on how to “bear-proof” your yard and remain safe, should you cross paths with one of these animals.

David has been a District Wildlife Biologist for 26 years. His current job responsibilities are the implementation of Agency wildlife habitat and population programs over 6 counties in northwestern Virginia. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in JMU’s Geography Department teaching a Wildlife Management course, since spring 2014. David holds degrees in Wildlife Management from West Virginia University (B.S.) and the University of Tennessee (M.S.) and has been a certified wildlife biologist since 1992.

The goal of this series of programs is to engage visitors and locals alike, about topics related to activities and events that can be enjoyed in the western part of Albemarle County. “With these programs, we focus on outdoor recreation but we also aim at providing useful information to further enjoy the rural environment surrounding us,’ said Kurt Burkhart, CACVB’s Executive Director. “We hope, with these programs timed to the seasons, that many in Crozet and the surrounding area will take advantage of these fun opportunities and share them with visiting friends and family.”

The new Albemarle Tourism and Adventure Center is now operational and the CACVB staff is ready to educate visitors and locals about the array of tourism assets to be enjoyed in our area. This new visitor center is located in the historic train depot in Downtown Crozet, which until recently was home to the town’s library. The space inside this beautiful building is shared with a consortium of local artisans, the Crozet Artisan Depot, LLC (Artisans), making it a must-see location for visitors. The Artisans are also planning to host events such as jam sessions (in partnership with The Front Porch) with local musicians at this location. The jam sessions will be from 7 -9 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Please check the event calendar at www.visitcharlottesville.org/visitors/calendar-of-events/ for a complete list of events.
