Forward Virginia Phase Two: Parks & Recreation Details
6/5/2020

Effective Friday, June 5, Virginia will enter Phase 2 of the Forward Virginia plan to safely and gradually ease health restrictions while containing the spread of COVID-19. Read Governor Northam’s Executive Order 65 and review the guidance for businesses to familiarize yourself with what you might expect for the next few weeks.

Please continue to follow CDC recommended practices in our parks:
  • Do not enter the park if you are sick
  • Keep your hands clean
  • Maintain appropriate physical distance
  • Do not gather in groups larger than 50 people

During Phase 2, here’s what you can expect for Albemarle County Parks

Parks Ambassadors
For our most popular parks, our Parks Ambassadors will continue to be present during peak times to greet visitors and share the latest CDC guidance and parks policies. Be sure to say 'Hello!' if you see them!

Playgrounds
Playgrounds at Albemarle County schools and County parks will reopen. Playgrounds are not sanitized. Please maintain a distance of 6' or more at all times. Distancing recommendations do not apply to members of the same household.

Picnic Tables, Grills, & Shelters
Picnic tables and grills will be available for use. Shelters will have picnic tables placed to allow for proper distancing. We are not taking reservations at this time - shelter use is on a first-come, first-served basis. All shelters in Albemarle County Parks will reopen by Tuesday, June 9.

Tennis Courts & Basketball Courts
Courts will reopen to pick-up/non-organized play. Please remember that these facilities are not sanitized. Due to the physical nature of play, the physical distance requirement is 10' or more between players at all times. Take proper precautions with shared equipment.

Athletic Fields
Athletic fields will reopen to pick-up/non-organized play. Please remember that these facilities are not sanitized. Due to the physical nature of play, the physical distance requirement is 10' or more between players at all times. Take proper precautions with shared equipment. Field reservations are not available at this time.

Restrooms
Restrooms are sanitized daily. Due to the cleaning effort required to safely reopen, bathroom facilities will require additional time to make available for public use. All restrooms in Albemarle County Parks will reopen by Tuesday, June 9.

Trails, Open Spaces, and Dog Parks
These facilities continue to be open. Please maintain a distance of 6' or more at all times. This does not apply to members of the same household. Please follow all posted guidelines.
