Purpose

The Albemarle County Electoral Board is a three-member body established in accordance with Article II, Section 8 of the Constitution of Virginia and Section 24.2-106 of the Code of Virginia. The Electoral Board is responsible for the appointment of the General Registrar and for the administration of all federal, state, and local elections held within the locality. The Board is composed of two members representing the political party of the current Virginia Governor and one member of the party receiving the second-highest number of votes for that office.

Upcoming Meetings

The Electoral Board meets at least once a month, and more often during the two months prior to each primary or general election.

PROVISIONAL BALLOT MEETING AND CANVASS OF RESULTS

  • Date: 11/06/2024 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM  

As required by law, the Albemarle County Electoral Board will convene a provisional ballot meeting at 12 noon, November 6, 2024 at the Albemarle County Office Building, 5th Street.  The purpose of the meeting is to determine the number of provisional ballots of each type in each precinct.  The adjudication of the validity of each ballot will not be considered at this time. This meeting is closed to the public but is open to (1) citizens who wish to defend the casting of their provisional ballots, and (2) one authorized representative of each party or independent candidate.

Upon conclusion of its provisional ballot meeting, and after a short break, the Electoral Board will convene the official Canvass of Results. The purpose of this meeting is to review the election results of each of the County’s precincts. This meeting is open to the public. The timing of the beginning of this meeting is uncertain, due to the uncertain time of conclusion of the provisional ballot meeting, but it will likely be in mid-late afternoon on November 6, 2024.
