Applying Directly to Community Development and Finance & Budget

If you wish to start a business within the County you will need to contact the Community Development Department for zoning approval and the Department of Finance for a business license.

Before submitting a New Business License Application to the department of Finance and Budget, be sure to review the following prerequisites:

• Have your Social Security Number or Federal ID number ready.

• If your business has a trade name, have ready a copy of your trade name registration with the State Corporation Commission. Trade name registration can be done through the SCC's website: www.scc.virginia.gov

• If your business is a general partnership, limited partnership, corporation, business trust, or limited liability company, have ready a copy of your state corporation registration.

• If you are a contractor, have ready a copy of your contractor's license from the State Board of Contractors.
