Building Permits

Building Inspections, Zoning Reviews & Inspections, and Bond Inspections
Building Inspections are required to make sure that all new residential or commercial building construction is safe and performed in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide building code. Zoning reviews and inspections are required to make sure that a use is permitted in the zoning district, the site location, and form required by the Zoning Ordinance. Dog Licenses
All dogs in Albemarle County must have a dog license after their first rabies shot. The license must be displayed on the dog’s collar at all times. Visit the dog license webpage to learn more and apply.
Business Licenses
If you are conducting or plan to conduct business within Albemarle County, you will need to register for a Business License and other applicable taxes. A separate license is required for each business category a taxpayer is operating, even if they are operating at the same location. A home occupation is a business conducted from the home in which you reside. This can include selling goods off-site or over the internet, or doing the accounting and paperwork for a business performed in or at other people’s homes, like tutoring, landscaping, or housecleaning, among others. Community Risk and Resilience Permits & Inspections
To ensure a safe community, the Fire and Rescue Department's Community Risk & Resilience Section issues permits and conducts inspections for open burning, blasting, tank removal and abandonments, fireworks, tents, hazardous materials, places of assembly, and some business licenses.
