The Albemarle County Police Department, in partnership with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), presents a drive-up Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
This national initiative is an opportunity for community members to safely discard any expired and unnecessary prescription drugs before they can be misused, abused, or accidentally ingested. ACPD will have a drop-off location at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
What To Know

Drop-off location will be a the Patient Transport Area in the back of the hospital.

Any unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications and syringes will be accepted.

Household medical sharps (syringes and needles) MUST be in a puncture-proof container, such as a laundry detergent bottle or red sharps container.

All medications will be handled by ACPD and properly destroyed.

Medical waste from commercial organizations will NOT be accepted.

Facemasks are required.

You will not be allowed to exit your vehicle (separate medications from sharps before you arrive).

Do not come if you are not feeling well and/or have a fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing.
