Starting Friday, November 1, 2024, Free Bridge Lane will be transformed into a car-free promenade as part of Albemarle County’s initiative to enhance recreational spaces and provide safer access to the Rivanna River. To help ensure that your program participants and visitors are aware of this change, we kindly ask that you share this information with them.
This change means that vehicles will no longer be permitted on Free Bridge Lane. Drivers should continue to use the main park entrance on Elk Drive. Instead, the lane will be open exclusively for walking, running, and biking.
While Free Bridge Lane will no longer accommodate vehicles, parking will still be available in the parking lot at the north end of the road. The lot will be open during normal park hours.
This new promenade will enhance the park experience, and we encourage everyone to come and explore this exciting addition to our recreational spaces.
This 113-acre park includes a sports complex, river access, dog park, playground and a reservable picnic shelter. This park is popular for hosting league soccer/softball and weekend sport tournaments. View the park map (PDF) This park is open from sunrise to sunset.
