Biography
The daughter of a small business owner in Staunton, Virginia, Ms. McKeel graduated from Bridgewater College (B.A.) and taught elementary school in Harrisonburg, VA. After receiving a Licensed Practical Nurse certification from UVA, Ms. McKeel worked in the Gynecology, Gynecology-Oncology and Cardiology Departments, retiring as a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator in 2015.
In December of 2013, Ms. McKeel completed her 16th year of service representing the Jack Jouett District on the Albemarle County School Board. Serving two terms as Chair, Ms. McKeel was a recipient of the Virginia School Board Association Award of Honor and Award of Distinction.
Elected to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors November 2013 and again in 2017, Ms. McKeel represents the Jack Jouett Magisterial District and has served as Vice-Chair and Chair.
Family
Two adult children and Brody “Mostly” Beagle. Ms. McKeel's late husband was a civil engineer, specializing in bridge research and design, for the VDOT's Highway Research Council. She and Greg Shoemaker, a 1975 UVA graduate and retired Information Technology Manager, live in Canterbury Hills.
