Building Inspections

Next-Day Inspection Request Deadline
Beginning January 1, 2021, the inspection request deadline is 12:00noon

Building Inspections are required to make sure that all new residential or commercial building construction is safe and performed in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide building code.

Call 434-972-4179 to request an inspection for the building permit you have obtained. Please have your building permit number ready when you call.

When permits are issued, a link to County View (to track permit status) and a list of inspector cell phone numbers will be provided.

Refund Processing
Beginning January 1, 2021, all refunds will be processed following the process outlined in Section 5-209 of the County Code.

Zoning Reviews & Inspections

Zoning reviews and inspections are required to make sure that a use is permitted in the zoning district, the site location, and form required by the Zoning Ordinance.

• Preliminary zoning reviews are done prior to the issuance of the permit, after the grading before the footing inspection is done.
  • For a Farm Building or detached shed you must mark the proposed location on-site so that Zoning staff can field verify the proposed location with an on-site inspection.
• Final zoning inspections are done after construction is complete. Call to request a final zoning inspection at least two weeks before you require your Certificate of Occupancy.

Bond Inspection

Bond inspections are required for all partial or full releases of bonds.

All requests for partial or full release of a bond will be made in writing on the Bond Inspection Request form and submitted to Community Development. An inspection fee is required for each bond, as prescribed by the applicable fee schedule shown on the form. Bonds will not be reduced or released until all outstanding fees have been paid, as applicable.

Complete and submit a Bond Inspection Request Form and applicable fee for each bond to be released.
