Home MenuSupplemental Bills
A supplemental tax bill is an adjustment to your tax bill for current or previous years or a new item that has been moved into Albemarle County. This can be from records of registered property with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), Personal Property Tax Relief (PPTR) reversals for business use vehicles, notifications from other Virginia jurisdictions, or registered property in Albemarle County. Under certain circumstances, supplemental
bills may include amounts due for three prior years and the current year.
Supplemental tax bills are generally mailed out 2-3 times throughout the year, and have due dates that are different than the regular Real Estate and Personal Property bills.
Possible scenarios that may cause a supplemental bill to be generated:
- You purchased a new or used vehicle in the current year, but after the County generates the personal property tax bills.
- Your vehicle was garaged in another jurisdiction in error and has been corrected to Albemarle County.
- You reactivated a previously expired tag through the DMV.
- A vehicle receiving Personal Property Tax Relief that is being used for business purposes.
- A real estate tax exemption or land use exemption was modified or removed.
- You purchased a home that is newly constructed and assigned a new value after January 1st.
- A modification was made to increase the value of an existing home in the current year due to a renovation or other property change.
