Home MenuThe Monacan Indians: Our Story
For our first Community Read, we honor the Monacan Indian Nation who occupied this territory before Europeans arrived here. Upon consultation with them, we chose to highlight The Monacan Indians: Our Story -- an indigenous history of the tribe written by tribal members. Included with the book is an insert from Dr. Jeff Hantman of UVA explains why this little book has been so crucial for the Monacans, and why it is a history we should all know.
