Virginia Housing Homebuyer Education
Virginia Housing is a state-wide agency dedicated to helping Virginians attain quality, affordable housing.  They offer classes for first-time homebuyers throughout the year with both virtual and in-person options. These classes are offered free of charge, but registration is required for the in-person option. For more information, visit the Virginia Housing website.

Albemarle County Homebuyer Assistance Program (ACHAP)
ACHAP provides zero-interest, deferred payment down payment assistance loans eligible first-time homebuyers purchasing a home Albemarle County. The program administered by Piedmont Housing Alliance. For information about the ACHAP and other down payment assistance options, visit their website.

Affordable Homeownership Opportunities

Albemarle County Office of Housing works with community partners to make homeownership more affordable. 

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville
Habitat for Humanity provides affordable homeownership opportunities for low-income individuals and families, as well as financial coaching and homebuyer education classes. Piedmont Community Land Trust
The Piedmont Community Land Trust, or PCLT, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization created in 2008. It was the first Community Land Trust established in the state of Virginia and serves the Charlottesville metropolitan area including Albemarle County. The PCLT creates homeownership opportunities for low-to-moderate-income families — families who make 80% or less of the Area Median Income. Private Developers
From time to time, private housing developers provide affordable homeownership opportunities in new developments. To qualify to purchase one of these units, a household must have an annual income no greater than 80% of area median income adjusted for household size. Income limits for these units, and a list of available affordable units for-sale are below.
