Companion Services is an option for eligible adults with an impairment who need services or support to enhance self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life. These services are performed by an individual or an agency provider who assists adults who are unable to care for themselves without assistance and where there is no one available to provide the needed services without cost. Individuals must meet both income and functional criteria to qualify. Additionally, services are only provided to the extent funds and services are available.  

Companion activities include, but are not limited to the following:DSS - Companion

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Eating/feeding
  • Transportation
  • Meal preparation
  • Shopping
  • Supervision
  • Light housekeeping
  • Companionship
  • Household/financial management

Companion Services can be provided by an agency or a family member/friend. If the client chooses to have a family member or friend as the provider, the proposed provider must complete an application including a criminal background check. There is no fee to apply.
