Long Term Care Services and Supports (LTSS) provides for the provision of nursing home level of care either in the community or in a nursing facility and is funded through Medicaid. This program was formally known as the Elderly and Disabled Waiver with Consumer Direction (EDCD). Unlike Medicare, which is federally funded, Medicaid is administered state-by-state. In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) administers and approves Medicaid reimbursement and services.
LTSS includes the following services, which can be received in combination with other services listed below.
- Adult day health care
- Assistive technology
- Environmental modifications
- Nursing facility or long stay hospitalization
- Personal care and respite care
- Personal emergency response system
- Private duty nursing services
- Help for members moving to the community from a nursing facility (money follows the person)
- PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly)- This program cannot be combined with any of the above services. For more information on PACE, please visit the local PACE program.

Permission to be screened for this program must be obtained by the adult or a substitute decision maker if the adult does not have the capacity to consent.
Be prepared to share information about your medical conditions and history, medications, physicians, income, and other services. You will be asked questions about your mobility, required level of assistance and/or supervision with bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding and medication administration.
