Disc Golf at Walnut Creek Park
The Walnut Creek Disc Golf Course surrounds Walnut Creek Lake on 34 acres of the 527-acre park. The course has a good mix of terrain offering scenic beauty as players shoot through field, woods, and over water.
To reach the first tee, from the parking lot by the beach, walk past the playground, turn left at shelter #2 and out into the grassy area by the lake. Each tee has signs describing the hole and an indicator of where the next tee is located. Beginners may want to avoid shooting over the water on hole #2.
The view from the 17th tee is one of the most picturesque in Virginia and the shot to the base of the dam is one of the most memorable. The course includes two baskets and two tees for each hole. Disc golfers are asked to play within the rules of etiquette and share the land with those who are fishing, biking, and hiking.
Disc Golf at Chris Greene Lake Park
The development and completion of the Chris Greene Lake new disc golf course in the Northern part of the County, was a successful partnership between Parks and Recreation, by providing space and in-kind services, and the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club, whose members devoted over 1100 volunteer hours to construct the course. In April of 2023, the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club hosted a soft opening to promote the new course at Chris Greene with over 60 participants playing the course for the first time.
A Community Collaboration
The Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club (BRDGC) was formed in February 2002 when a group of disc golfers in Charlottesville formed a non-profit club for the purpose of building a course and promoting the sport of disc golf in Central Virginia. The club has worked hard in cooperation with Albemarle County to build the course with countless hours donated in its fundraising, construction, and maintenance. The BRDGC runs regular gatherings at all three of its area courses that are open to all as well as two Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) sanctioned tournaments each year.
More information, maps, and scorecards and information about disc golf and the course are available on the BRDGC website and on the BRDGC Facebook page.
