This program, launched in 1988, has collected an average of 2,300 trees annually that yield over 110 cubic yards of chips. The trees will be chipped into mulch and offered back to the public at no cost. 

Christmas tree recycling reduces the impact on our landfill and helps residents find a place to dispose of a large and cumbersome item.

We will operate eight sites. The sites will be open from December 26, 2023, to January 21, 2024. The hours of operation will be, seven (7) days a week, 7 am until dark.

We require that decorations, stands and nails be removed. Please no yard waste, or Christmas wreaths.

The available drop off locations are:

• Claudius Crozet Park – 1075 Claudius Crozet Park, Crozet, VA 22932
• Greenwood Community Center – 865 Greenwood Rd. Crozet, VA 22932
• Chris Greene Lake Park – 4460 Chris Greene Lake Rd. Charlottesville, VA  22911
• Darden Towe Park – 1445 Darden Towe Park, Charlottesville, VA 22911
• Scottsville Community Center – 250 Page St. Scottsville, Va 24590
• Walnut Creek Park – 4250 Walnut Creek Park North Garden, VA 22959
• Simpson Park - 2410 Simpson Ln. Esmont, VA 22937 (new site location this year)

The recycled trees will be chipped into mulch and the mulch will be available for FREE starting Monday, January 22, 2024, at Darden Towe Park and Claudius Crozet Park.

*The recycling location on McIntire Rd may be congested. Please consider Darden Towe Park as an alternate location that is less congested and is suited better for large loads and contract haulers.
