The Administrative Bureau is responsible for a wide variety of police services. Detectives are included in this bureau and are divided into the Person Crime Unit, Major Crimes/Property Crime Unit and the 3A Narcotics and Gang Task Force. This division also provides services to both internal and external customers, with tasks ranging from issuing uniforms and equipment to assisting citizens in the front lobby. The Training and Professional Development Unit maintains the certification of personnel through interdepartmental and external training while working to recruit new officers to continue the department’s commitment to the community.
Criminal Investigations Division
Criminal Investigations Division houses specialized teams that are able to handle a wide variety of crimes, from serious misdemeanors to felonies. Units in this division include the following.
Professional Standards Division
Housed in this division you will find our Training And Professional Development Unit, Internal Affairs, and Freedom of Information Act Specialist. The Training And Professional Development Unit is responsible for not only the recruiting and hiring of officers, but also the continuing education for all staff within the department and specialized training teams such as the following.
Administrative Service Division
The Administrative Service Division consists of two units, the Services Unit and the Fiscal Management Unit, both of which provide support to facilitate the law enforcement operations and mission of Albemarle County. This division is responsible for the following, all of which are vital to the efficient and effective operation of the Albemarle County Police Department:
- Maintaining all agency records and providing customer service to citizens and employees
- Managing all fiscal responsibilities of the Department
- Ensuring that the department continues to maintain its state accreditation status
- Providing staffing/operational analysis
