Albemarle County maintains a limited amount of drainage infrastructure – such as inlets, pipes, and channels – within the County. Most infrastructure is located on private property and is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain in good working order.

If you are experiencing or want to report any of the following, please email us at drainagecomplaint@albemarle.org.

  • Localized flooding
  • Sinkhole in roadway or on property
  • Corroded or collapsed pipe
  • Clogged pipe or channel
  • Eroding channel

Once you contact us, we can find out if the problem is the responsibility of the property owner or the County. If the property owner is responsible, we will assist the property owner – to the extent that we can – in resolving the issue. If the County is responsible, we will take appropriate actions to remedy the situation.

Note that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) maintains drainage infrastructure associated with all public roadways in the County. Report an issue to VDOT online or by phone at 1-800-367-7623.

This map shows all the drainage infrastructure that has been mapped to date, and its condition at the time of the mapping.
